DANG Banh Mi

Ideal for: Grabbing a quick lunch with friends, casual, taking a lunch break from the office

Cost: The banh mi is a little higher than others at around $6, but the sandwich is huge!

Offerings: banh mi, bun bowls, Maine Root sodas on tap

Experience: I spent the day today on a mission with my friend, Zack.  We traversed around North Central Austin, hitting North Shoal Creek, Allendale and the North Campus neighborhoods. Our day started at Wheatsville with a coconut milk latte (slammin!) and then we went on a mission.  We got hungry toward the early afternoon and were trying to find a place to lunch. Not always easy for us to do, as Zack is a vegan.  He had been to DANG before and said we ought to try it.  I was super in the mood for pho so it seemed like a great idea.  DANG is located in the Crossroads shopping center off of Burnet Rd and Hwy183 (Research Blvd.)   We walked and noticed right away how clean and welcoming the place was. It’s set up like a fast casual style restaurant (think Chipotle), you’re not coming here to impress anyone. You walk up to the counter and are greeted and make your choices.  Remember, I was craving pho, and they had  it listed on their menu with a big black box over it.  They don’t carry pho anymore. This made me sad.  I ended up ordering the Char Biu Chicken Bun and Zack got the Lemongrass Tofu banh mi (no mayonnaise.)  They have Maine Root sodas on their fountain machine, which is awesome, but I am trying to stay away from sugar a little bit (diabetes.)  We took our seats at the tables that are a little bit higher than an average table, think a bar table.   The food came out and I was blown away by the sheer amount in the bowl.  The picture doesn’t do it justice.  It was amazing. The chicken was perfectly cooked, the bowl was filled with greens and there was the perfect notes of cilantro every few bites. On point.  They came out and checked on us, over all very friendly staff.  It was a great experience, in and out in around 30 minutes, so a great place to grab a quick bite on a day out shopping or sight-seeing.

Seating: tall chairs and booths. The chairs have no arms, you know we love that!! And a fun cube pattern, but be forewarned if you are wearing shorts!

Pros: Huge portions, delicious food, quick stop for a day out!

Cons: Honestly, I had an awesome experience today, so I must say I don’t have any cons!
