Sunshine Bakery
Ideal for: Those in need of a quick pick me up
Cost: Inexpensive
Offerings: coffee, pastelitos, cakes
Experience: I love this place. This Cuban bakery has been around for 50 years and going in you’ll understand why. They have four cases filled with sweet and savoury goodies and also some excellent coffee to go along with it. This place is always busy whenever I go in which I believe is a testament to how good they are. The staff is always attentive. I wound up going on a Saturday morning. They were a little harried, but that is to be expected. I got a cortadito, a quesito (a sweet, little cheese bread thing), a guava and cheese pastelito, and a slice of flan cheesecake all for $4.75. I cannot even get coffee in some establishments for that. I know I have had some overpriced, disappointing bakery items while doing the adventure in caffeination series in Austin. It makes me happy when a business understands how to keep their customers happy. This bakery is great!
Seating: There are a few tall tables and chairs inside, but most folks take items to-go. There is also free Wi-Fi, if you do decide to stay.
Pros: Super affordable, delicious coffee and bakery items
Cons: Not many tables inside
